AWMAC ONTARIO –ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING & AWARDS CEREMONY

On February 25, 2016, AWMAC Ontario held its AGM and Awards Ceremony dinner at the Weston Golf and Country Club. The evening was a great success, with some new faces in attendance along with many old friends.

The annual general meeting chaired by our Chapter President, Peter Gallagher, was well attended. In Peter’s opening speech, he discussed the exciting new changes that are being reviewed by AWMAC Ontario to improve membership, including round tables, AWMAC member specific contracts, plans rooms for Architects and Designers and more.

Livio Passalent AWMAC Ontario’s VP and GIS Director, discussed the changes that are being considered by National as discussed at the GIS National meeting in Winnipeg earlier in February. A number of questions were considered by the chapter rep’s attending the National meeting which fueled discussions and new updates to the GIS program. Included in these changes is the inclusion of geographic compensation to outlying regions. Livio encouraged all members to help with getting GIS specified and engaging the youth in AWMAC and the GIS program. Livio ended his presentation by outlining the 1.5 year and 5.5 year plans developed at the National meeting.

Along with the financials and improving membership, one of the main topics that all present discussed and agreed upon, was that we as an association should work together to engage our youth in AWMAC. AWMAC Ontario has already donated manuals to three (3) post secondary education institutions and there is a Student Questionnaire being written jointly with Conestoga College, Humber College and AWMAC Ontario. Upon a pass of 95% on this Student Questionnaire, a certificate will be issued to each student that can be presented to future employers when they start applying for jobs.

After the AGM was the cocktail reception and awards dinner. A great time was had by all, with lots of networking opportunities for our members and their guests. Weston Golf and Country Club was a great location and the food was superb. Thank you to the staff at Weston Golf and Country Club for providing a wonderful evening for AWMAC Ontario members.
