AWMAC Ontario Annual Apprenticeship Contest:

This year AWMAC Ontario held its annual Apprenticeship Contest at Humber College on Saturday March 25, 2017.

There were ten participants this year, including students from Conestoga College, Georgian College and Bendt Kitchens & Millwork Inc. They all worked hard all day at their cabinet and the judges had their work cut out for them at the end of the contest!!

Although all participants were competing fully in this contest, the atmosphere remained calm and friendly, with jokes and banter between them during breaks and lunch. Please visit the Photo Album on the AWMAC Ontario Website to view photos taken of all participants during the day.

AWMAC Ontario would like to congratulate Caleb Perry of Conestoga College, for placing first place with his cabinet being shipped to Winnipeg to participate in the National Apprenticeship Contest, against the winners from the other Canadian AWMAC Chapters. Best of luck to Caleb!!!

Second place was awarded to Steve Heemskerk from Conestoga College and third place was awarded to Jeremy Kaufman of Bendt Kitchens & Millwork Inc.

All contestants did a great job and AWMAC would like to wish all those who participated in this years contest the very best in their continued studies in the architectural woodworking industry. We hope to see them again next year!!!

AWMAC would like to extend a very warm thank you to Drew Aaslepp of Humber College for all his time and help during this contest. Drew was the first at the shop in the morning and the last to leave that evening!!!

The judges for this year’s contest were Frank Sansalone from BLUM, Jody Wyman of Bendt Kitchens & Millwork Inc. and Nick Anastas of Archmill House – AWMAC would like to thank these three judges for their time and dedication in supporting up and coming woodworkers!!

This contest would not happen without the continued support and generous donations from our sponsors. AWMAC would like to recognize and thank all those who sponsored materials and time for this event including Blum, Hardwoods, Richelieu, Brenlo, Upper Canada Forest Products, Hettich, Formica, Precision Veneer and Grass Canada.
