Welcome to the new AWMAC e-newsletter. As an AWMAC member you will receive this important news update monthly, to keep you informed about all the new exciting updates in our Association.
After the last few lean years for most of our industry, it finally seems like the tides are turning and we look forward to some prosperous years ahead. We are pleased to announce that the new revised Standards Manual is now on its way from the printers and should arrive at the Ontario office before the end of August.
We are organizing Lunch and Learns with Architects and Designers to introduce the new manual and to impress on them the advantages of specifying GIS for their millwork projects. It is hugely important that the GIS program keeps gaining traction in Ontario to ensure that we remain an Industry focused on a quality product. Last year we organized two seminars - one on LEED as it pertains to the millwork industry, the other on Liens and Trusts. Both were well supported by our members and very informative. This Fall we have two dates arranged to introduce the new Manual and new MSQ. We urge you to attend one of these seminars and if you have any suggestions for further sessions, please let us know.
This is your Association, but it can only improve with your help and input. Enjoy the rest of the summer and I look forward to talking with you all personally in the near future.

1. Thursday, September 11th, 2014 from 10 am – 12 noon
2. Thursday, September 25th, 2014 from 2 pm – 4 pm.
Both dates will be held at the Toronto Construction Association (70 Leek Crescent, Richmond Hill). Members can pick up a copy of the new manual at this time. To register for either date, contact Hermia (416-499-4000 x182 or firstname.lastname@example.org). In addition, attendance at the seminar is considered a “participation” event and will result in a refund of your 2014 participation fee.
Fall Social: We are well underway with planning our fall social – Curling! This will be a perfect opportunity to network with other members in a relaxed atmosphere and have a great time learning to curl. Check the website soon for final details.
Guarantee and Inspection Service (GIS): By assisting architects and design professionals in providing accurate project plans and specifications, this national program can add value and quality to their projects. Members wishing to learn more about the GIS program should contact us to set up a Lunch and Learn. We’ll set up a meeting, bring lunch and provide an overview of how the GIS program can help contractors avoid problems such as cost overruns, delays and loss of reputation. The GIS mandate is to ensure that the quality of materials and workmanship of the architectural woodwork specified are in compliance with the current AWMAC Architectural Woodwork Standards (AWS) and to offer the owner, customer, design authority and woodwork contractor an assurance that strict monitoring of the architectural woodwork requirements on a given project meet the AWMAC standards. Contact Hermia for more details, (416)-499-4000 x182 or email@example.com).

Alan Poplett Obituary
Alan Poplett, loving husband of 40 years to Cynthia and devoted father to sons, Doug and Jon, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014 after a motorcycle accident in Stewart B.C. His family takes comfort knowing he died doing what he loved.
Alan, Holz-Her Canada Inc.’s Regional Sales Manager for Western Canada and the Territories, had just joined AWMAC’s Board of Directors as the Northern Alberta Chapter’s Director. In the few days that Alan graced us with his presence at AWMAC’s National Convention and Annual General Meeting, he made many new friends and his contributions to the woodworking industry will be sorely missed.
