AWMAC Ontario held the annual Al Sparling Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday June 21, 2019 at Nobleton Lakes Golf and Country Club and what a fantastic day it was! Mother Nature gave us perfect weather, the tournament ran smoothly, and the food was (as always) amazing!!

Thank you to Jon Mozes and all the staff at Nobleton Lakes for hosting AWMAC Ontario once again and making the event so great!!

Congratulations to Convoy Custom Interiors Team - Peter Gallagher, Greg Funk, Sal Lombardo and Michael Lombardo for winning the golf tournament!!

The Most Honest Players this year were from Grass Canada – George Pavlov and William Martucci!!

AWMAC would also like to Congratulate the following skilled golfers:

Closest to the Pin Winner: Chris Hudson

Longest Drive Winner’s:  Men’s – Bernard Arzdon and Women’s – Maria O’Neill

As many AWMAC Ontario Members know this tournament raises funds for us to donate a bursary to a College Woodworking Program annually. The College that hosts the AWMAC Apprenticeship Contest is the recipient of this bursary. This year Conestoga College will be the recipient. To help raise funds we hold a 50/50 draw and this year raised $940.00 at the 50/50 draw – thank you to all those who participated! – and the winner was Kevin Greenough from Blum.

Thank you to all those who participated in and sponsored this annual event!!

AWMAC National Convention, May 23-26, 2019

The BC Chapter hosted the National Convention in Victoria and celebrated all that AWMAC has become over the past 50 years!! And what a great celebration.

A HUGE Thank You to the BC Chapter for hosting such a great event!!! So much work, time and planning goes into each convention and when it all comes together so wonderfully it really shows the dedication of the AWMAC Members involved!!

BC chose the Inn at Laurel Point as the venue and what a beautiful hotel, situated right in Victoria Harbour! Every room had a water view!!

The Partners Showcase on Thursday night was attended by many of the guests who reconnected with old friends and introduced themselves to new ones!

On Friday the National AGM was attended by the voting members in attendance. There has been a change this year in the National Board of Directors, with Larry White of Upper Canada Forest Products, gladding handing the torch to Rudy Bardeck (Apollo Industries) as the new President. Also moving into a new position is Jeff Clermont of Brenlo, who is now the Vice President with Peter Gallagher of Convoy Custom Interiors taking his seat as the Ontario National Director.

Kerry DePape (RL Cushing Millwork Company) of Saskatchewan stepped down this year from the AWMAC National Board at the AGM. As many of you are aware, Kerry DePape passed away shortly after the National Convention. Kerry will be greatly missed by his family and so many friends, colleagues and work associates. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.

The President’s Gala was held on Friday night and in true AWMAC fashion, it was a superb celebration of AWMAC’s accomplishments both over the past year and the past 50 years!! The Life Members that were present were thanked for their great contribution to our association and remembrance of many AWMAC contributors was also celebrated!!

New to this years National Convention was an award for the best GIS Project Nationally. Each chapter submitted one winner (from the past 2 years) of their Chapter GIS Project Award to National. The National GIS Committee reviewed all project and Nick Anastas (Archmill House) the National GIS Chair had the great please to announce the winning project - the Calgary New Public Library to Executive Millwork, from the Southern Alberta Chapter. Congratulations to Executive Millwork for such a spectacular project!

After all the announcements were completed, Ian Christie (Upper Canada Forest Products) the Ontario President then took the podium and announced the location of next years National Convention – Toronto, Ontario!! Yes Ontario AWMAC Members, we are up next year to host our fellow members from across this great country!!

On Saturday the dinner was held at the Butchart Gardens just outside Victoria. WOW!!!! If you have never visited the Butchart Gardens – even if you are black thumb – include them on your visit when you go to Victoria, BC. Absolutely breathtaking!!! AND to top the evening off, we all watched the Toronto Raptors win their semi final series!!! It doesn’t get any better than that!!
