Message from New AWMAC National President

At the recent Saskatoon Convention and AGM hosted by the Saskatchewan Chapter, I was excited to be elected President of AWMAC and I look forward to continuing the great work of my predecessor, Scott McVittie.  AWMAC has come a long way in supporting our members and the industry to become the authority for architectural woodwork in Canada. We should be proud to achieve that status as it says no one knows our industry better than our members. To maintain that status AWMAC will continue to work hard to educate the industry and promote our Association through lunch and learns, trade shows, advertising and collaboration with our friends at the Woodwork Institute and the Architectural Woodwork Institute.

I joined the AWMAC Ontario Chapter in 1993 because I believed that as a manufacturer I should be involved in the Association that governed our industry. We are fortunate to gain Associate and Partner members that follow that same belief. Supporting those members and Partners that support our Association is the right thing to do. I look forward to working with members to strengthen our Association.

Please consider attending the next Convention and AGM in Charlottetown, P.E.I. next year. There is strength in numbers and lets show the industry that we truly are proud of our Association and our accomplishments.

Manufacturers Deadline for MSQ

All manufacturer members must complete the Manufacturer Standards Questionnaire (MSQ) by October 1st, 2015 or risk membership termination.  This is less than 4 months away!

AWMAC Ontario has hosted three MSQ seminars to help guide members through the process. It’s now up to you.  Any project that was tendered after October 1st, 2014 must adhere to the new manual.  For GIS projects that were tendered after October 1st, 2014, all Manufacturing Members will have to have a Manager that has successfully passed the MSQ test before a GIS Certificate can be issued.

Events & Seminars

The AWMAC Al Sparling Memorial Golf Tournament is next week on June 16th at Piper's Heath (5501 Trafalgar Road in Hornby).  If you haven’t registered yet, please contact the office immediately or click here.  Sponsorship opportunities are also still available.

The Trends Event by Richelieu held earlier this month was a huge success.  Manufacturers and suppliers made the event a must see for designers, architects and buyers.  Thank you to Richelieu for providing AWMAC with a complimentary booth to educate visitors about the association and hosting the AWMAC seminar “GIS Made Simple”.

On October 21st, AWMAC will host a complimentary seminar on “Contracts”.  Guest speaker, Michael Swartz, a partner at WeirFoulds LLP, will teach members how to write a proper air-tight contract and how to look for pitfalls.  Members may remember Michael as he delivered a very informative and lively presentation on the Construction Lien Act last November.  To register, please contact the association. Space is limited.

The Ontario Chapter will be exhibiting at the Woodworking Machinery & Supply (WMS) Conference (November 4) and Expo (November 5-7) at The International Centre in Mississauga.  It’s the premier woodworking event that hosts Canada's largest display of woodworking machinery, supplies and services and offers educational opportunities on strategies to operate smarter and leaner.

AWMAC members can take advantage of free Expo Floor registration using code AWMAC15.   Register here.  Drop by AWMAC’s booth and attend our seminar.  More details to follow.
