The AWMAC Al Sparling Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on June 16th at Piper's Heath (5501 Trafalgar Road in Hornby).  It’s a great opportunity to play some golf while networking with industry colleagues.  Sponsorship opportunities are still available to promote your company to AWMAC members and their guests. The Saskatchewan Chapter will be hosting the 2015 AWMAC Convention at the Delta Bessborough in Saskatoon, SK on May 28 – 31, 2015.  Details can be found on the National AWMAC website. Kindly complete the attached Proxy Form if you are unable to attend.

The Ontario Chapter continues to host Lunch and Learns to educate architects and design authorities on the value of the Guarantee and Inspection Service (GIS) program and the updated Architectural Woodwork Standards Manual.  You can get involved by:

•Booking a Lunch and Learn (for architects, spec writers, etc.)

•Sponsoring an event to gain visibility with these potential customers

The Trends Event by Richelieuwill be held June 4th at Richelieu Mississauga and we invite members to visit the show and drop by the AWMAC booth.  AWMAC will also be hosting a seminar at 11:45 am called “GIS Made Simple”.

On October 21st, AWMAC will host a complimentary seminar on “Contracts”.  Guest speaker, Michael Swartz, a partner at WeirFoulds LLP, will teach members how to write a proper air-tight contract and how to look for pitfalls.  Members may remember Michael as he delivered a very informative and lively presentation on the Construction Lien Act last November.  To register, please contact the association.

Manufacturers Deadline for MSQ

A reminder that all manufacturer members must pass the Manufacturer Standards Questionnaire (MSQ) by October 1st, 2015 or risk membership termination.  This is only 5 months away!

AWMAC Ontario has hosted three MSQ seminars since September 2014 to help guide members through the process. It’s now up to you.  Any project that was tendered after October 1st, 2014 must adhere to the new manual.  For GIS projects that were tendered after October 1st, 2014, all Manufacturing Members will have to have a Manager that has successfully passed the MSQ test before a GIS Certificate can be issued.  To find out more about MSQ, click here.

In the past several months, the Chapter, thanks to generous sponsoring members, has supplied copies of the Architectural Woodwork Standards manual to schools to be used as a teaching tool for their students.  Conestoga College’s Woodworking Centre of Ontario (sponsoring member: Pro-Ply Custom Plywood) and Georgian College’s Cabinetmaking (sponsoring members Formica, Richelieu and Upper Canada Forest Products) have received manuals so far.  If you are interested in sponsoring other schools, please contact the association.

AWMAC National’s The Sounding Board magazine is preparing their next edition.  Any Ontario members wishing to have their project(s) featured in the magazine should submit them to the Ontario Chapter for review as soon as possible.  It’s a great opportunity to showcase your work!
